The Forever Home

The Forever Home

“Caskets are ugly. If I had it in me, I’d start a casket company making contemporary, sleek, tasteful caskets. Think a house in Malibu…with handles. We ended up picking a light blue casket for my mom. My sister and I weren’t crazy about it, but It matched my mom’s dress. The handles matched her silver shoes. And that, alone, would have made my mom very happy.” – From “Day 13” of 14 DAYS – A MEMOIR

See Ya Later

See Ya Later

Before she died, my mom learned “fist bumping” from an aide in the hospital. He told her, “Around here, we don’t say goodbye, we say, ‘see ya later!'” From that point forward, she fist-bumped everyone who came through our house for the last two weeks of her life. I fist-bumped her casket when I passed it for the final time and said, “See ya later, Millie Goich”.
